The 5th European Union Weightlifting Cup was underway this weekend in Innsbruck, Austria. The Maltese team was made up of Shelby Mangion Vassallo and first time international competitor Tenishia Thorton. The meet saw the best athletes from Europe, Italy, Spain, Poland, Austria, Sweden, Croatia, Slovenia and Malta in the U15, U17 and U20 age groups
Sunday 27th May at the Cottonera sport complex the annual Malta Weightlifting open championsip was made a much tougher competition this year by being held in conjunction with an International meet which brought athletes from Italy, England, Spain and France. Both Maltese teams participating finished on top of the podium with a 1st and 3rd
This weekend three Maltese athletes had a very successful competition at the 11th Vladan Milhajovic Weightlifting Tournament in Serbia, bringing home 2 Gold medals and 1 Silver. The team consisting of Yazmin Zammit Stevens, Elisia Scicluna and Vlad Baldacchino took the platform on Saturday alongside athletes from Serbia, Bosnia, Spain, Bulgaria, Georgia, Slovenia and Romania.
